Title: | Selected Kentchurch Court papers relating to Llancillo and Rowlestone |
Place name: | Llancillo, Rowlestone |
Date: | 13th to 19th century |
Description:
Records of the Scudamore family of Kentchurch Court are housed in Herefordshire Record Office, and summaries of the full AL/40 collection are available on the Access to Archives website. The selection given here are those summaries relating to Llancillo and Rowlestone, known as manors in the medieval period, which are among many other property holdings of the Scudamore family in a wider area of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. The two manors were held by the Scudamore family of Kentchurch under the feudal overlordship of Ewyas Lacy, and from the mid 16th century Llancillo and Rowlestone parishes were two of the ten parishes in the Hundred of Ewyas Lacy.
There are many variant spellings of the names of these two parishes in the documents below. Modern spellings of some other place names and personal names are noted at the first occurrence.
