Extracts from the Longtown Vestry Minutes transcribed below all relate to the provisions made to the poor as ‘outdoor relief’, that is, support outside the workhouse. These extracts contribute to a research paper on this website which examines various categories of outdoor relief in a wider study of the role of the Vestry and administration of the Poor Law in Longtown  from 1820 to 1840. ENTRIES FROM 1820 TO 1824

22 September 1820
- We order the Overseers to Stop the Pay of John Edwards from Sunday next.
- We allow William Watkins a pair of shoes.

28 December 1820

- We reduce the pay of Ann Lewis’s Daughter from 4/- per week to 3s per week from Sunday Next.
- We agree with William Williams for the keep of Jeremiah Williams from this time till May next at 1/6 per week if he goes to him.
- We reduce the pay of Martha Davis’s Children with George Davis from 5/- per week to 4/6 per week from Sunday next.
- We reduce the pay of James Symonds from 10/- per week to 8/- per week from Sunday Next.
- We agree to allow George Williams of the Township of Craswell 8s per week for 6 weeks for the keep of Mary Williams now a Lunatic at Peterchurch from the time she goes to him.

The following persons are appointed to receive the Hurden Cloth now in the hands of the Overseers.
