Order for a removal from Longtown to St Margarets, 25 January 1847
Ann Prosser

The Examination of Ann Prosser at present residing in the Township of Longtown... Widow touching the place of her legal settlement taken on oath before us, two of Her Majaestys Justices of the Peace acting in and for the said County on the twenty fifth day of January in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Forty Seven upon the complaint of the Overseers of the Poor of the said Township.

...who upon Oath, saith as follows - I am sixty six years of age or thereabouts. I am the widow of David Prosser late of Upper Maescoed in the parish of Saint Margarets... Labourer who often told me that he was legally settled in the parish. I have not done any act since his demise to gain any settlement in my own right. I am now living in the Township of Longtown. I was in receipt of two shillings per week from Mr John Price Relieving Officer at the cost and expense of the said parish of Saint Margarets up to the first of January last. I have not resided in the said Township of Longtown for the space of five years. I am now receiving two shillings per week relief from the said John Price...

The Deposition of John Price Relieving Officer of the Dore Poor Law... upon his oath saith as follows – I am relieving Officer of the Dore Poor Law Union in which the Township of Longtown and the parish of Saint Margaretts are both situated. For about four years last past until the fifth of January instant during which time the above named Ann Prosser has resided in the said Township. I afforded her parochial relief in money by order of the Guardians of the said Union eighteen pence per week (a part of that rent and two shillings) charged the same in my account to the Overseers of the Poor of the said Parish of Saint Margaretts [?] that the said Ann Prosser was resident in the said Township during the time I so afforded her parochial relief. Since the first day of January instant I have paid her two shillings per week and have charged the same to the Overseers of the Poor of the said Township. [Signed]  John Price.
