Title: | Digital Archive: INDEX - Clodock Warden’s Book 1798 - 1846 |
Place name: | Clodock |
Date: | 1798 - 1846 |
Description:
Every Anglican church historically had two Churchwardens chosen each year, one of whom was appointed by the parish priest or the bishop of the diocese and one elected by the congregation. Their duties included dealing with church finances and keeping notes of parish meetings. These matters were usually recorded in varying degrees of detail in ‘Wardens’ Books’. These records of church income and disbursements, and of matters of concern to the clergy and their parishioners over the years, provide a rich insight into social history of the parishes.
