Place name: | Michaelchurch Escley |
Date: | 1863 - 1864 |
Description:
Photograph of a letter relating to the purchase by Elizabeth Rawson of the Escley Court Estate, dated 2nd July 1863, which appears to be from Miss Rawson’s lawyer Chas. Evans, referring to enquiries he has made in Hereford. He advises Miss Rawson that the Michaelchurch property is ‘hard work and hard living’ and to all intents advises her against the purchase, not least commenting that ‘poor land is dear at any price’ and ‘…I picture Escley Court as [a] place uninhabitable for 1/3rd of the year…’ He advises that he will not act upon [Miss Rawson’s] instructions without confirmation.
