Title: | Digital Images Collection: Photograph of a letter to Elizabeth Rawson re the purchase of the Escley Court Estate |
Place name: | Michaelchurch Escley |
Date: | 1864 |
Description:
Photograph of a letter dated 5th January 1864 to Elizabeth Rawson from Charles Evans her lawyer, and some related notes, re the purchase of the Escley Court Estate and the arrangements for collecting and accounting for rents. He recommends the appointment of a resident estate manager and suggests Mr Apperley [the previous estate manager for the vendor Richard Barton] should continue in his position as amongst other things ‘he knows all about the manors, as to the extent of which there is but little information to be gleaned from the title deeds’. In a postscript, Mr Evans adds a further argument in favour of employing Apperley even if Mr Trafford takes up residence at Escley Court, saying ‘…I should fancy the tenants a roughish lot, best dealt with by a man of the County’.
