Title:

Photographs of Abstract of Title of the British Transport Commission to land acquired by the Golden Valley Railway Company

Place name:

Abbeydore, Ewyas Harold

Date:

c.1840 - 1901

Description:

Photographs of Abstract of Title of the British Transport Commission to land acquired from Elizabeth Pugh and others by the Golden Valley Railway Company. The Abstract is dated 1960, and appends maps showing the diversion of the river Dore between the 1 mile and 1¼ mile posts of the railway line that was the subject of a legal case by Elizabeth Pugh against the GVRC [see ‘observations’ below.]
It also gives details of the sale of land at Bridge Farm, Ewyas Harold on 29th November 1886 by Miss Pugh to the Golden Valley Railway Company for the sum of £300, “in possession free from incumbrances inclusive of compensation for all damage sustained or to be sustained by reason of severing the said lands from other lands of the vendor and for all other damage or injury sustained or to be sustained by such other lands by reason of the said railway…”
This settlement was no doubt the final act in settlement of the action brought and won by Miss Pugh in the courts some years earlier.

Observations:

This is part of a wider collection of documents pertaining to a legal dispute in 1880 between the Golden Valley Railway Company and Miss Elizabeth Pugh concerning diversion of the river Dore during construction of the railway.
