Beneficiaries: To wife, Jane, a £15 annuity paid, in two half yearly equal parts on 25 June and 25 December, out of rents and profits of the freehold messuage etc. called Rurthland. Also all household goods and furniture.
Rurthland itself to sons, Aaron Rogers, clerk and Moses Rogers, surgeon in trust for 500 years from the death of wife for them to raise £400 to be paid out as legacies:
To daughter Jane, interest on £100 for life and on her death the principal to go to her son John Evans. And
£300 to be divided between daughters, Mary, wife of John Gwillim, Sarah, wife of Benjamin David Williams and Phoebe, wife of Henry Thomas Harris. The husbands are to have no claim, demand or control over these legacies.
To Moses and Aaron, sons, £50 each
To Grandson James Gilbert Price, a natural son of Sarah, £200 to be paid when he reaches 21. In the meantime interest on the amount to be used to maintain and educate him.
Subject to the settling of the £400 of legacies, Rurthland itself to go to eldest son, John.
To daughter, Jane Evans, the cottages and lands purchased from David Griffiths and John Watkins for her lifetime and on her death the one from John Watkins to go to her daughter Anna Jane Smith and the other to her son Aaron Smith. If Jane permits her husband, Evan Evans to live in either of the cottages, they are both to be placed in the trust of the executors for the children when they reach 21.
The several pieces of freehold land called Button's Land, near Clodock church purchased from William Rogers to wife, Jane for her lifetime and thence to the executors to discharge testamentary expenses and legacies.
All the rest of the estate, after debts etc are paid to wife Jane and sons, John, Aaron and Moses upon trust; that it be 'laid out at interest upon real or government security' and the interest paid to wife Jane during her lifetime. On her death the capital and any interest to be divided between all the sons and daughters equally, but with the proviso that the daughters' husbands are to have no claim or control over their legacies.

Executors: wife, Jane and sons, John, Aaron and Moses.

Signed by testator.

Witnesses: Wm Jones, Clodock, Thomas Penry, Longtown and Joseph Pritchard, Longtown.

2. Inventory: none but affidavit sworn by the executors states ' his goods chattels and credits did not amount in value to he sum of £2000'.

 

 

Observations:

Quite a complex will, obviously drawn up by a lawyer to cover all contingencies. Documents include formal commissioning of vicar of Clodock to take an affidavit [2pages] and the affidavit itself signed by the 4 executors, Includes 2 coversheets; 8 sheets in all.
