Description

1. Will dated 8 February 1810 .
All debts and funeral expenses to be paid
Beneficiaries:
To cousin, John Gwillim of Wigga in Rowlestone, gent the house she lives in called Garngalled together with its lands etc and the cottage purchased from John Lewis, all lying in Clodock parish. Subject to it all being used to pay the following legacies.
To Howell Nicholls, son and heir of James Nicholls deceased, late of Trewern in Clodock parish, the barn, land and premises situated in Coldock parish, bought by the testator's father from Mr Harry Phillips of Grosmont, together with the piece of meadow land bought by the testator's late husband, John Powell, from Walter Jeffryes Esq. adjoining and now part of the farm that includes the barn.
To Mary Morrice, all the testator's good hogsheads now in her possession at the
Groves
To Robbert Gwillim, kinsman, all real and personal estate , sums of money due on mortgage, deed, bond or otherwise to be received by him and applied as directed in this will with Robert retaining the remainder.
To James Nicholls, second son of James Nicholls late of Trewern, £400.
To Elizabeth Johnson, wife of John Johnson and Ann Price, wife of James Price, daughters of the said James Nicholls of Trewer, £100 each.
To Mary Williams and Blanch Davis , £20 each and to Margaret Gwillim, £30, being daughters of uncle, William Gwillim, deceased of Wigga, Rowlestone parish.
To Thomas Gwillim, £30 and to Jane Gwillim, widow of Thomas Gwillim, £20 and to Mary Jones wife of George Jones, £20[see mfs_lon_0295 for George Jones' will] being the son and daughters of Phillip Gwillim, yeoman deceased.
To Elizabeth Gwillim, Ann Gwillim and Jane Lewis, widow, daughters of uncle, Robert Gwillim, deceased, £20 each.
To Elizabeth Howe, daughter of Peter Howe, deceased, victualler of Monmouth, £200.
To the Churchwardens and Overseers of the poor and their successors for the time being, of Longtown, £60, 'being an augmentation and addition to the sum of £40 left by my husband to place out the same in the purchase of lands or as a mortgage on Good Land security.and the Rents Interest and profits to be by them distributed among the poor of the said parish of Longtown in St Thomas'sDay in every year for ever'.
To the officiating minister of the parish of Clodock, £1 for preaching 4 sermons a year - 3 in the parish church of Clodock and one in the chapel of Longtown. Ascention Day, Ash Wednesday and Easter Monday in Clodock and All Saints Day in Longtown. This to be paid from the Garngalled estate. If the minister misses or fails to deliver any of the above sermons he is not to be paid.
