Description

1. Will dated 17 July 1631 .
Beneficiaries:
To the Cathedral
church of St Davids , 12d.
Towards the repairs on Clodock parish church , 10/-
Toward ' the repayring of the way between
Cluddocke Church and Pont Henry, 6/8d.'

To the poor of Clodock, 40/-, to be given to the Churchwardens to be distributed by them to the most poor and needy in the parish 'uppon the next good ffryday after my decease'.
To Morgan Delahay, clerk, vicar of Clodock, 50/- for tithes forgotten.
To the four children of Thomas Powell, testator's brother, 3 sons and one daughter, £24 to be equally divided between them. To be paid in four years time 'from the rents of my purchased lands in Layn Rosser [Llanrosser?]
Thomas Powell,his executors and administrators, is released of all debts to the owed to the testator.
To daughter, Katherine Powell, all purchased lands and tenements with their appurtenances in Llanrosser, parish of Michaelchurch Escley, when she reaches 21.
To, brothers' children, the rents of the purchased lands after the £24 has been paid at the end of 4 years and to my wife Sibell during the minority of Katherine. If Katherine dies before she reaches 21 then the purchased lands go to Thomas son of Thomas Powell and if he dies it is to go the John the second son of Thomas Powell, the testator's brother.
To wife, Sibell, the lease lands and tenements held under Robert Parry Esq. for her lifetime and after to Katherine. If Katherine dies then the unexpired portion to go to nephew and godson, John William.
' And whereas John Powell of Michaelchurch Escley in consideration of the sum of £100 hath assured unto me a certain tenement and lande lying in Michaelchurch Escley aforesaid in mortgage and doth pay £10 yearly unto me for the same tenement and Lande so mortgaged. I do hereby give and bequeath the said £100 to my daughter Katherine and the said yearly rent for the said mortgaged premises until the said £100 be paid in redemption and if it shall happen the premises and land be not redeemed, then they be given to my daughter Katherine.' If Katherine dies without issue before the redemption then £100 and yearly rent to pass to Syble, testator's sister and wife of William George. If the mortgage is not repaid then Syble to have the land for her lifetime after which it is to revert to the testator's right heirs.


Kinsman John Powell of Trewerne, to be remitted all small debts due by notes or obligations.
To cousin, John Powell of Michaelchurch Escley , £5, to be given him at Candlemas next after the testator's death, by the executors from the rent due for the mortgaged premises
To Anne and Katherine William, two of the daughters of brother in law, William George, £5 to be shared equally when they reach 21.
To godson, John William, 40/- when he is 21.
To Elizabeth Powell, daughter of Griffith Powell, 20/-
To cousin, John Gwynn, £5.
To Margaret Thomas, 'now dwelling in
Hereford ', £3.
To John Lucas, 10/- and to Harry David, £10 and to William Jones, godson, 10/- and to Olive Jenkins, 5/-.
To Howell ap David, 6/8d
To Katherine James, servant, 6/8d
To Blanch Watkins, 6/8d.
To Harry Marks, one 2 year old heifer.
To cousin, Roger Powell, 5/-.
To sister Syble, £15 'which I have laid upon certain lands of my cousin JohnPowell of Trewerne'.
'Everything else of mine not bequeathed' to wife Syble

Executrix: wife, Syble with Overseers, brother Thomas Powell and cousin Griffith Powell who get 20/- a year for their trouble
