Title: | The Mansions of Herefordshire and their Memories: CJ Robinson |
Place name: | Clodock |
Date: | 1872 |
Description:
Charles John Robinson MA was Vicar of Norton Canon in Herefordshire, and his book was published by Longmans & Co. of London in 1872. It includes comments on the parishes and prominent families of the county. The following entry is for Clodock:
“Clodock preserves the name of a British saint – Cleodoceus – who might otherwise be forgotten, but has almost lost its own individuality as a parish. Even two centuries ago Silas Taylor said of it, ‘It hath lately taken the name of Longtown’ (which see), and it is now little more than a term which embraces the more important townships of Crasswall, Llanveyno, Longtown, and Newton.”
