Title:

Probate Collection; Inventory for [name destroyed - missing]

Place name:

Ewyas Lacy [Parish/district missing]

Date:

1626

Description:

Documents

1.   Will: None

2. Inventory:
. dated
22 May 1626 ; valued at £4  10  1d. Appraisers: Lewis Gilbert, John William and Thomas Price.

Observations:

There is a problem with this set of 5 photocopies of documents which the National Library of Wales has catalogued as BR/1626/139. The bundle comprises two inventories marked I1 and I2   but inventory I2 is not a copy of I1

. Both inventories are damaged, I1 being particularly badly damaged at the top such that the name of the deceased and parish are missing and only part of the names of the appraisers can be made out, though their names, Lewis Gilbert, John William and Thomas Price, are listed where they signed at the bottom of the document. Because of the lack of parish this appears in the index as a Ewyas Lacy document, mfs_ewy_0203.
In the case of I2 , a much longer and more valuable inventory ??? I1 has a value of £4  3(?)  2d while I2 is valued at £195  19  10d ??? and it names the deceased as Lewis Harry Richard, gent of Clodock with appraisers John Price, Abraham Prichard, John Watkin and Thomas Jenkin.
Both bare the same date of 22 May1626, a coincidence which may account for their being bundled together and thought to be copies of one another.

His inventory is reproduced with modern spelling
