DE SCUTAGIO PICTAVIE
……….
Rogerus de Clifford debet vij m de eodem de feodis Roberti de Ewias.

Extract p. 167
DE SCUTAGIO DE BIHAM ASSISO AD X S.
Petrus Escudamor [blank] l s. De eodem de feodis Roberti de Ewias.

Observations:

This is an extract from a taxation return covering the whole country. Scutage was 'a tax, instead of personal service which a vassal or tenant owed to his lord, sometimes levied by the crown in feudal times' according to Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary. Thus

FROM THE SCUTAGE ASSESSMENT
. [Literally FROM THE PICTURED SCUTAGE]

Roger de Clifford owes 7 marks [£4 13 4] of the same [i.e. legal money] for the service of Robert of Ewias".
and
FROM BIHAM'S SCUTAGE WITHOUT REMISSION …..[I am unsure of the meaning of 'AD X S' ]
"Peter Scudamore [blank, 'owes' ] 50 shillings of the same for the service of Robert of Ewias".
