Description:
Michaelmas 1222
Extract.
...........
Petrus Escudamor debet 1s de eodem de feodis Roberti de Ewias.
Observations:
This is an extract from a taxation return covering the whole country. Scutage was 'a tax, instead of personal service which a vassal or tenant owed to his lord, sometimes levied by the crown in feudal times' according to Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary. Thus
Peter Scudamore owes 1 shilling of the same [money] for the service of Robert of Ewyas.
