The term Corvisor may have been used interchangeably with Cordwainer and Shoemaker, although some sources suggest it may have been applied specifically to makers of wooden clogs. Local oral history suggests that clog-making was well established in Ewyas Lacy; Alder was apparently a good timber for the purpose, and was abundant along the extensive local watercourses.
