Abstract from will of Mary Mayrick

Copy will and probate of Joseph Lea.

Copy will and probate of James Pitt of Longtown 1840

Observations:

The titles to these properties as it appears from the deeds here is somewhat incomplete, but it seems that one farm known as Trewern was divided into 3 parts under the will of of Elizabeth Prosser in 1810.  One third part passed to Mary Mayrick and thence by her will of 1833 to Howell Nicholls.

The farm was later returned to its original form by the purchase of one third part from James Morgan in 1848 and another third part from Thomas Nicholls in 1871

Meanwhile another farm called Trewern was in the ownership of James Pitt, who mortgaged it in 1823 to Joseph Lea.  The property was later sold to James Jones, from whom it passed in 1849 to Howell Nicholls.  He also acquired the assignment of the earlier mortgage and himself mortgaged this property and the 2 third parts of the other Trewern which he then owned.  In 1865 he added to the property by the purchase of the Nyal with 4a land and Bank Cottage with 3a land.

By 1872 the two farms had become known as Upper and Middle Trewern.
