1. Will [2 pages] dated 1 May 1782 :
Beneficiaries: To James Hughes, nephew, the freehold estate 'wherein I now dwell' and all the shops buildings and lands in Longtown 'thereunto belonging' in trust. For the payment of an annuity of £7:
To Mary Phillips, niece, from which she is to pay the interest on a £100 mortgage on the estate. [this seems a complex scheme unless Mary and her husband, William, were living in one of the estate houses on which the mortgage was raised]
To nephew, James Hughes, all implements of trade, stock of goods and colours and implements of husbandry together with most of the personal possessions listed on the inventory.
To Jane Hughes Hughes, sister, £10.
To Elizabeth, niece 'my brothers daughter', £5.
To. James Hughes the messuage and lands held by lease of Walter Jeffreys, gent in Longtown for the remainder of the lease except on plot of meadowland above the dwelling house which is bequeathed to kinsman, James Watkins.
To Mary Johnson, servant, one bed 'which she now uses to lie upon'.
To Sarah Jones, servant, 'as much good flomen as will make one sufficient gown and petticoat together with one pair of new shoes'.
Residual legatee Mary Phillips.

Executors: Mary Phillips, niece and William Phillips.
