Description:

The servants’ wages book contains a record of the amounts paid [normally weekly] to each named servant and their signatures acknowledging receipt. In some but not all cases the capacity in which they were employed is given. Photographs of the cover and one sample page of the book are included below.

The names of the servants recorded and the amount of their weekly wage are:

T Middlecote: £2-5-5d per week [gardener; in 1922 his wages appear to have been cut to £1-18-0d per week]

G Powell: £1-19-5d per week

Dora Vooght: £3-0-0d per month

Ada Blackburn: 17s-11d per week [housemaid]

PJ Hatcher: £2-5-5d per week [gardener; note added to entry – ‘engaged Sept. 11^th 1920 at £2-5-0 per week & cottage’]

Annie Barrington: £1-6-8d per month [housemaid]

Jessie Britten: 12s-6d per week
