Title: | Photograph of the headrace sluice at Michaelchurch Mill |
Place name: | Michaelchurch Escley |
Date: | 1995 |
Description:
Close-up of the headrace sluice after restoration. The original gates, frames and metalwork had disappeared completely, and the new ones were constructed from detailed patterns taken from the old sluice gates at Cagebrook Mill, Clehonger which date from a similar period to those which would have been installed at Michaelchurch. The rack, pinion, trunnions and ratchet were cast at an iron foundry in Bristol, and the gates were built and installed by Mike Griffiths from Clehonger.
