Description:

This photograph is of the waterwheel at Michaelchurch Mill after standing idle for nearly 50 years. The buckets and backing plates have rotted badly, but despite appearances the main axle and cast iron frame are still in reasonable condition. The tilt of the wheel betrays the fact that the oak bearing frames had collapsed and one of the main bronze bearings had broken up.
