1.   Will: dated 24 April 1576 .
Requests to be buried in the parish church of 'St Michael the archangel on Escley'
Beneficiaries;
To wife, Alsen [Alison?], all freehold land and property lying in Michaelchurch Escley for her lifetime and thereafter to pass to his three daughters, Cycilly, Gwenllian and Joan and their heirs. [The will continues with legal details of what is to happen if one or more daughters dies before they inherit.]
To son in law, Richard Thomas Taillor [it is unclear whether this is his name or his trade], the two best oxen and as much money as will make up with the value of the oxen the sum of £6  13  4d.
Although daughter, Sibill is married, the testator fears that she may fall on hard times and so he leaves to his wife and the 3 above daughters 10 sheep which, he instructs,  they use as an investment to provide for Sibell if she 'shall hereafter wont or be in distress and misery'.
To daughter, Johan, a cow.

Executrix: Alsen, wife

No mark or signature by the testator on this copy.

Witnesses: Hoell ap Rees Madye, John Bevan, Thomas Powell, Price Madye and Thomas ap Rees aPowell.

Date of Probate:
4 June 1576

2. Inventory: nd. valued at £19  8s [but come to £18  19  4d]. No appraisers listed.

Observations:

This will contains an interesting attempt by a father to protect a married daughter without directly passing goods or money to her when they would have become the property of the husband; although he recognised the son in law with a separate legacy.

His inventory is reproduced with modern spelling
