Beneficiaries:
To son, John, ... 'the mansion house wherein I now dwell...and the moiety of the Tyeth [tythe] during the lease' paying the rent and £20 to Blanch his daughter, John's sister.
To daughter, Blanch, £60 'now upon the lands of Lewis Thomas of the Cwm as by deed it doth and may appear'.
To daughter Johan Watkins, £60 with the interest now in the hands of Thomas Watkins of Craswall and £5 in the hands of John William Prichard, her uncle. Also to Johan, 2 kine, 5 sheep, one mare coloured brown, two yearling bullocks, one hog, a feather bed, one covering, 2 blankets, 4 pairs of sheets, 2 table cloths,2 pillow beers, 6 napkins, 6 pewter dishes, 2 candlesticks, one great pot, one posnet, a wainscot chest and a coffer.
To daughter, Blanch, 2 kine, 2 weaning calves, 5 sheep, one sow, one hog, 3 pairs of flaxen sheets, 4 pairs of 'welch yarne' sheets, 2 pillow beers, 2 tablecloths, 6 napkins, 2 blankets, 'my second pann', the little brass pot, one posnet, one kettle, 6 pewter dishes, 2 candlesticks two coffers, one little cupboard, one pair of gobbards, one iron broche.
To son, John, one yellow mare, 2 three year old bullocks, 5 sheep, 'my biggest pann', an iron pot, and 'one furnace with all the rest that I have belonging to my trade', one bedstead in the chamber.
If either daughter marries without the consent of their uncle, John William Prichard, their legacy is to go to son John.
To sister, Ellenor Grynowe, one black cow.
To niece, Jane, 2 ewes.
To servant Jane Thomas, one black cow.
To Elizabeth, daughter of Phe [Phillip] Jenkins, one ewe.
To servant, Lewis Bowen, 15/-
To labourer, Thomas Watkins, 6/8d
To Owen Rees, one peck of rye and a bushel of oats against Christmas.
To Jane, daughter of Lewis Thomas, one ewe.
Towards funeral expenses, £4.
Finally, 'I give and bequeathe unto Jane Thomas my said servant, the chamber where the dayrie house is soe longe as she shalbe unmarried'.

2. Inventory: dated
16 November 1640 ; valued at £151  11  4d [but comes to
£152  11  4d]. Appraisers: Watkin Lewis David, Jenkin Harry and George Parry.

 

 

Observations:

There is no date for the will. Probate was clearly 7 December 1640 and the inventory 16 November that year. The documents include a bond dated as probate with bounden John William Prichard of Clodock[?] and John George [?]. the top of the bond has been badly written with interlining which makes it tricky to read and is not helped by a fold in the original crossing the photocopy diagonally masking the size of the surety.

His inventory is reproduced below with modern spelling.
