Documents
1. Will?? dated 3 August 1641
Beneficiaries:
To John Thomas, son of sister, Jane, one half of the messuage where she lives with all houses, buildings gardens, lands etc and?? half of the........[unreadable] of her message situated in Michaelchurch Eskley.
To niece Elizabeth, wife of Simon Parry, the other half of the messuage. The messuage etc was purchased by the testatrix from Thomas Howell and his wife Margaret. The testatrix's sisters, Jane and Catherine are to have 'housrome' in the dwelling for their lifetimes, 'being granted ingress and regress'
To sister Jane, one cow. [There is a half line deleted in the document which can be read :'a cow for sister Catherine' ??? this could mean that Catherine had died after the will was written and before Johan died or perhaps she had second thoughts and decided that one cow was sufficient for the two sisters living together].
To Johan, daughter of Simon Parry, the feather bed, bolster and pillow, coverlet and sheets 'I lye upon', best brass pan which the two sisters are to have to use in the house during their lives there.
To Simon Parry and his wife,
Executrix: great niece Johan, daughter of Simon Parry.
Marked by the testator
Witnesses: John James, Thomas David, James Probert and James Probert jnr.
Date of probate:
2. Inventory: dated
Observations:
The documents include a bond dated as probate with bounden Johan Parry of Llanvihangel [Michaelchurch] Escley and John Thomas of the same, yeoman in a surety of £100.
It seems likely that the bond of Symont Parry [mfs_mic_0329] relates to the Simon Parry referred to in this will.
Her inventory is reproduced below with modern spelling.
