Title:

Deeds relating to clergy advowsons

Place name:

Rowlestone, Llancillo

Date:

1801 - 1944

Description:

The series of documents indexed below relate to the advowson of Rowlestone and Llancillo over several generations. An advowson was the right to nominate a clergyman for ministry, which was typically nomination by a patron who provided income for the clergyman appointed. At Rowlestone and Llancillo the advowson was for a perpetual curate, a position specific to an individual and to these churches. These documents showing the advowson being bought and sold, leased and mortgaged, illustrate an obsolete practice.
