Title:

Probate Collection; Will and documents for John Bevan, blacksmith

Place name:

St Margarets

Date:

1699

Description:

1.Will dated 20 Jun 1699 .
Beneficiaries: To wife, Katherine, his 'right and interest in a house and incroachment which I have upon the common of
Upper Mescoid ' for her lifetime and then to his son Arnold for ever.
Also to wife, Katherine, all his live stock, implements of husbandry, corn and grain growing, household effects and all other chattels, for her lifetime and then to be divided equally between son, James and daughter Jane.
Wife Katherine is to have no authority to arrange any alternative disposal of his goods. [this seems to have been qualified by allowing her to dispose of 'what shall happen to be spare'. Presumably this would be any increase in the stock etc that she through good management could achieve]. She is also allowed to dispose of the legacies of any of the children who die before her.

Executors: Son James and daughter Jane

Marked by testator

Witnesses: John Waters, Mary Powell, and William Lewis
.
Date of Probate:
19 September 1699

Observations:

No Inventory, will only. with a separate registration instruction; 2 sheets in all
The date in the will looks like 'Jan' rather than 'Jun' , but January 1699, by their calendar, would fall after September so it must be June not January when the will was prepared.
