Description:

1. Will: [2 pages] dated 29 May 1821 .
Beneficiaries: To eldest son, John Pitt, all his freehold messuage etc where he dwells lying in the parishes of St Margarets and Clodock. Also all the pieces of land recently purchased on the Middle Maescoed common.
To wife, Ann the two messuages whose leases from Lord Abergavenny for lives he bought from David Pitt, for the remaining unexpired term of lives Also the tenement and piece of land purchased from John Pitt during the term of her life, and then both to son, Joseph, for the unexpired term of lives on these two properties. Similarly the lease of the messuage purchased from John Gething and his wife, Mary, for the remainder of the term of lives, to wife Ann and then Joseph. subject to the payment of £7 10s for legacies.
To to Nancy Pitt, daughter of James Pitt deceased and Rachel his wife, £5 when she reaches 21..
To James, son of James Pitt by his wife Jane, £2 10s when he attains 21.
To eldest son, John, all livestock, crops and implements of husbandry subject to the payment of £7 10s for legacies:
To James, son of James Pitt, mentioned above, £2 10s when he reaches 21.
To William, brother of James, £5 when he reaches 21.
To wife Ann all his household furniture and one heifer calf.

Executor: eldest son, John Pitt.

2.Inventory: none but coversheet endorsed 'under £20'.

 

 

Observations:

Will and coversheet only; 3sheets in all. This man seems to have been asset rich but cash poor with so many leases and a freehold estate it seems strange that his inventory should be less than £20.
