Title: | Transcript of Survey of the leases, copyhold & tenements in hand on behalf of the Right Honorable George Baron of Abergavenny by Richard Crofts gent |
Place name: | Ewyas Lacy |
Date: | 1687 |
Description:
This transcript of the 1687 Survey of the leases, copyholds & tenements in hand of the Right Honorable George Baron of Abergavenny has been kindly given to the Group by Dewi Bowen Williams BA for which we are most grateful.
The first five parts of the Survey ie excluding Ewyas Harrold, are transcribed as follows:
Township of Michaelchurch Esley [Michaelchurch Escley]
Township of Craswell [Craswall]
Township of Lanvinoe [Llanveynoe]
Township of Long Towne [Longtown]
Township of Newton alias St Margarets
The original Survey shows an added manuscript hand mainly amending the tenant’s name and quoting the rent. A number of these entries are dated 1718. It may be reasonably concluded that all these additions were made in that year. These additions comprise those in the left hand column, text in the right hand column and names and text in (brackets) in the central column.
